Definition of terms and how these have been used in the results section

| White British | Women from White English/Welsh/Scottish/Northern Irish/British backgrounds. |
| Ethnic minority | Women from any ethnic group other than White English/Welsh/Scottish/Northern Irish/British. Used in the results section when themes were mentioned by women from several of the ethnic minority groups, but not mentioned by White British women. |
| Asian | Women from Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi backgrounds. Used in the results section when themes were mentioned by women from two or more of these subgroups. |
| Black | Women from Caribbean/mixed White & Black Caribbean/African or other Black backgrounds. Used in the results section when themes were mentioned by women from two or more of these subgroups. |
| Indian; Pakistani; Bangladeshi; Caribbean; White & Black Caribbean; African; other Black; White other | Ethnic minority subgroups used in the results section when themes were mentioned exclusively by women in one of these subgroups and used in the participant identifier information following each illustrative quote. |
